Range

Northern Indian subcontinent through Bangladesh to Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam and Japan

The mountain hawk-eagle, or Hodgson's hawk-eagle, is a large bird of prey native to Asia. Like other Asian hawk-eagles it was earlier placed in the genus Spizaetus, but genetic studies showed that group to be paraphyletic, so the Old World members are now in Nisaetus. Elevations it has been known to live at in the Himalayas are mostly 600–2,800m, though it has been recorded up to 4,000m in northern Yunnan (Wikipedia, general species account).

It is a confirmed breeding species in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, from India and Nepal (the source of the species name) through Bangladesh to Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam and Japan, though its distribution could be wider. It was described by the naturalist Brian Houghton Hodgson after he collected one in the Himalayas (Wikipedia, general species account).
