Unlike pikas confined to open talus, it frequently uses montane forest and shrubland as well as rocky slopes. It feeds on grasses, herbs, leaves and twigs and shelters in burrows, root cavities or rock crevices. Short calls advertise alarm or maintain spacing. (Wikipedia, general species account)
