The northern chevrotain is a very small ungulate, about 47cm long and around 3.5kg. It is tawny with a darker head, white underparts and a triangular white throat patch edged in tawny. (Wikipedia, general species account)
The species is recorded from southern China and Thailand. A study in Yunnan found it in dense, low-elevation vegetation near streams, where fruiting plants included figs and Burmese grapes. Activity was concentrated around twilight, a pattern interpreted as reducing overlap with larger nocturnal herbivores. (Wikipedia, general species account)
