The orange-breasted trogon is a colourful, sedentary, medium-sized trogon, 25–31cm long and 49–57g, living in the lower canopy of lowlands and forest in southern China, South-east Asia, Borneo, Sumatra and Java. Males have a dull olive-yellow head and a rufous-chestnut colour extending from the upperparts to the underparts. It is insectivorous and hunts from a perch (Wikipedia, general species account).
Adults breed between January and May, excavating a nest in dead tree stumps. The species does not migrate. The song starts with a 1–3 note 'to (to to)' followed by 3–4 even-pitched 'tau-tau-tau' notes (Wikipedia, general species account).
