The species ranges widely across South and Southeast Asia and occurs in parts of southern China. It hunts small reptiles and amphibians, especially lizards and tree frogs. Its enlarged rear teeth assist venom delivery, but its venom is not generally regarded as a serious threat to humans. The broad Ahaetulla prasina complex may require further taxonomic revision.
