The banded bullfrog, also known as the painted narrow-mouthed frog, is a stocky, triangular, medium-sized frog of the narrow-mouthed family. Adults measure 5.4–7.5cm, with a dark brown back marked with stripes from copper-brown to salmon pink. It lives at low altitudes in both urban and rural settings and in forest, and when threatened it inflates its lungs and secretes a noxious white substance (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is common from north-eastern India and Nepal to southern India and Sri Lanka, southern China (especially Hainan) and Myanmar, and south to the islands of maritime South-east Asia. It buries itself during dry periods and emerges after heavy rain to call and breed. It feeds primarily on ants and termites (Wikipedia, general species account).
