Pallas's reed bunting is a small Old World bunting similar to a small reed bunting, with a small granivorous bill. The male has a black head and throat, a white neck collar and underparts and a heavily streaked grey back, where the reed bunting's back is browner. It is common in tundra scrub by water and also breeds in drier open areas such as open larch forest. (Wikipedia, general species account)

The nest is typically made of grasses and sedges. It lays three to five cream-coloured eggs with the hair-like markings characteristic of buntings, and incubation takes 11 days. The male's song is a repetitive sherp. (Wikipedia, general species account)
