Basic stats

Range

Central Asia

Size

14–16 cm; 25–32 g

The saxaul sparrow (Passer ammodendri) is a sparrow found in parts of Central Asia, 14–16 cm long and 25–32 g, among the larger sparrows. Both sexes range from dull grey to sandy brown with pale brown legs; females have less boldly coloured plumage and lack the pattern of black stripes on the male's head, and the head markings make the species distinctive. Three subspecies are recognised. The source does not describe its status in China. (Wikipedia, general species account)
