Tropical Asia, from Yemen to the Philippines

The pheasant-tailed jacana is a jacana whose elongated toes and nails let it walk on floating vegetation in shallow lakes; it can also swim or wade while foraging mainly for invertebrates. It ranges through tropical Asia from Yemen to the Philippines and is the only jacana that migrates long distances, with different breeding and non-breeding plumages (Wikipedia, general species account).

In breeding plumage the body is chocolate brown with a white face, a golden-yellow nape, mostly white wings and long central tail feathers that give it its name. Females are larger than males and polyandrous, laying several clutches that are raised by different males.
