The plain prinia is a small, skulking warbler resident from Pakistan and India through southern China and Southeast Asia. It occupies wet lowland grassland, scrub, open woodland and sometimes gardens, where its repeated tlee-tlee-tlee song is often more conspicuous than the bird. Like most warblers it eats insects. The nest is constructed in a shrub or among tall grass and contains three to six eggs. Older literature sometimes included this species within the African tawny-flanked prinia.
