Hainan, China (endemic)

The Hainan peacock-pheasant is endemic to the island of Hainan, China, and is described as extremely rare. It was long considered a subspecies of the grey peacock-pheasant. It is smaller, has a short crest and ruff, and has red facial skin as opposed to the yellow-orange facial skin of the grey peacock-pheasant. Beebe (1922) noted various plumage differences between the two and considered them separate species (Wikipedia, general species account).
