The pygmy sperm whale is a compact toothed whale with a square head, narrow underslung jaw and small curved dorsal fin. A pale crescent behind the eye resembles a false gill. Adults measure approximately 2.7–3.8m and are larger than the closely related dwarf sperm whale. It occurs in deep tropical and temperate waters worldwide. (Wikipedia, general species account)

The species eats squid, fish and crustaceans and is normally seen alone or in very small groups. It floats low and surfaces inconspicuously, rarely approaching boats. Like the dwarf sperm whale, it may eject a cloud of dark intestinal fluid when disturbed before diving away. (Wikipedia, general species account)
