The red-and-white giant flying squirrel is a very large arboreal squirrel with reddish upperparts, a pale face and underparts, and a long reddish tail. Its striking colour pattern varies geographically. The species occurs widely in central and southern China, with some taxonomic treatments also including populations on Taiwan. (Wikipedia, general species account)
It inhabits montane broadleaf and mixed forests and is active at night. Animals shelter in tree hollows and feed on leaves, shoots, fruit, nuts and bark. The broad gliding membrane carries the squirrel between trees, and the long tail helps control direction and landing. (Wikipedia, general species account)
