The red collared dove, also known as the red turtle dove, is a small pigeon, 20.5–23cm long and about 104g, that is a resident breeding bird in the tropics of Asia. The male has a blue-grey head and a red-brown body with a black ring round the neck. The female is much plainer, with pale brown plumage similar to that of the larger Eurasian collared dove (Wikipedia, general species account).
There is a summer migration into the broader cultivated valleys of Afghanistan, where it breeds. On arrival the birds are often in small flocks, which soon split up and begin pair formation and breeding (Wikipedia, general species account).
