Naemorhedus baileyi
Habitat
Steep forested mountain slopes
Range
Northeastern India, northern Myanmar and adjacent southeastern Tibet
The red goral is distinguished by a bright fox-red coat with long, soft and somewhat shaggy hair, contrasting with darker markings and short backward-curving horns. It inhabits steep, forested mountain country in northeastern India, northern Myanmar and adjacent southeastern Tibet. Its taxonomy has been treated inconsistently: populations formerly placed under this name have also been separated as Naemorhedus cranbrooki, and the Mammal Diversity Database describes the current multi-species arrangement as tentative.
