The redpoll is a small brownish-grey finch with dark streaks and a bright red patch on the forehead, breeding in the Arctic and north temperate Holarctic tundra and taiga. It was formerly widely treated as three species: the common or mealy redpoll, the arctic or hoary redpoll and the lesser redpoll. Wingspan is 19–22 cm. (Wikipedia, general species account)

It feeds mainly on very small seeds, principally birch and alder seeds in winter. The female builds the nest, often low in a tree or bush, and lays three to seven speckled eggs that she incubates for about 11 days. Both parents care for the young, but only the female broods them. The source does not describe its status in China. (Wikipedia, general species account)
