Alectoris graeca
Habitat
Dry, open and often hilly country
Clutch size
5–21 eggs
The rock partridge is a rotund gamebird with a light brown back, grey breast and buff belly. The face is white with a black gorget, the flanks are rufous-streaked and the legs red. It is very similar to the chukar partridge but greyer on the back and with a white, not yellowish, foreneck (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is a resident breeder in dry, open and often hilly country, nesting in a scantily lined ground scrape with 5–21 eggs. Its song is a noisy ga-ga-ga-ga-chakera-chakera. The English name 'stone partridge' translates literally from other languages as 'rock partridge', which has caused some confusion (Wikipedia, general species account).
