The scarlet-backed flowerpecker is a small, short-tailed bird 9 cm long and 7–8 g, found in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and occasionally gardens, up to 1,000 m, across South and East Asia including China. (Wikipedia, general species account)
It is sexually dimorphic: the male has navy-blue upperparts and a broad bright red stripe from crown to tail coverts, while the female and juvenile are mostly olive green.
