Scaptochirus moschatus
Range
China
The short-faced mole is the sole living species in Scaptochirus and is endemic to China. Like other fully subterranean moles, it has a compact body, reduced eyes and ears, velvety fur and powerful outward-facing forefeet adapted for excavating soil. The available species account confirms its identity and Chinese distribution but supplies little species-specific information on diet, dimensions, reproduction or habitat preferences.
