The Siberian rubythroat is a migratory insect-eating chat. It is brown above with a strong white eyebrow and a black tail marked by red side patches. Adult males have a bright red throat edged first in black and then broadly in white; females lack this conspicuous throat pattern. It breeds in Siberian mixed coniferous forest with undergrowth, nesting near the ground, and winters in southern and Southeast Asia. Modern sources place it in Calliope rather than Luscinia.
