The silver-eared mesia is a social Southeast Asian forest bird whose diet is dominated by insects, larvae and fruit, with smaller quantities of seeds. Foraging parties may contain as many as thirty birds and sometimes join mixed-species flocks, usually feeding near the ground. Both sexes construct a deep cup nest from bamboo and other dead leaves, lined with rootlets and fern fibres. Two to five eggs are laid and incubated by both parents for 13–14 days.
