The spot-bellied eagle-owl, or forest eagle-owl, is a large forest owl of formidable appearance, found in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It forms a superspecies with the similar but geographically separate barred eagle-owl. Unlike the fish owls, it and the barred eagle-owl are not tied to riverside habitats or a fish diet (Wikipedia, general species account).

It was long treated as a Bubo species, but genetic research shows the Ketupa owls are a separate group from the typical Bubo eagle-owls.
