The striped field mouse is a small yellow-brown mouse marked by a prominent black stripe running along the middle of its back. Its total length is 9.4–11.6cm, including a comparatively short tail of 1.9–2.1cm, and reported average mass is 21.5g. The sharp dorsal stripe is the principal external feature separating it at a glance from many other similarly coloured field mice. (Animal Diversity Web)
Its broad range reaches southeastern China and Taiwan from temperate Eurasia. The species uses grassy fields, cultivated areas, rice paddies, woodland and forest. It eats roots, grain, seeds, berries, nuts and insects, and can both leap and swim well. Individuals dig burrows used during the night. Breeding can occur throughout the year; females may produce as many as six litters annually, each containing up to six young. (Animal Diversity Web)
