Temminck's stint is a very small wader, 13.5 to 15 cm long, similar in size to the little stint but shorter-legged and longer-winged. The legs are dull yellowish or brown and the outer tail feathers white. It is rather drab, with mainly plain brown upperparts and head and white underparts apart from a darker breast; in winter it recalls a tiny common sandpiper. The call is a loud trill (Wikipedia, general species account).

It breeds in bogs and marshes in the taiga of Arctic northern Europe and Asia, from southern Scandinavia east to the Chukotski Peninsula. It has a distinctive hovering display flight and nests in a ground scrape, laying three or four eggs. Its closest relative is the long-toed stint.
