Strix uralensis
Diet
Dietary generalist, usually reliant on small mammals such as voles
Size
50–64cm
Wingspan
110–134cm
The Ural owl is a large nocturnal owl, 50–64cm long with a wingspan of 110–134cm. It has an exceptionally long tail for an owl, with a wedge-shaped tip, and pale cream-ochre to grey-brown underparts boldly overlaid with dark brown streaking and no crossbars. Like most birds of prey it shows reverse sexual dimorphism in size, with females larger (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is something of a dietary generalist like many members of its genus but is usually locally reliant on small mammals, especially voles. Breeding success is often strongly correlated with prey populations. The source does not describe its status in China (Wikipedia, general species account).
