Basic stats

Habitat

Subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest, 2,200–2,680m

Range

Mount Gaoligong, Yunnan, China (endemic)

Wang's forest hedgehog, also called the Gaoligong forest hedgehog, is found only in China. It is endemic to the slopes of Mount Gaoligong in Yunnan Province, where it lives in subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest at elevations of 2,200–2,680m. This distribution is disjunct from that of the other species in its genus. It can be told apart from them by its spine colour pattern, a broad nasal region and the presence of fourth upper molars (Wikipedia, general species account).

It hibernates between mid-October and early April. The population size has not been quantified, but it is likely very small, as the species has only been found in the Gaoligongshan National Nature Reserve (Wikipedia, general species account).
