The white-crested laughingthrush is a highly social and vocal bird found in forest and scrub from the Himalayan foothills to South-east Asia, including China. It has a stocky build, strong blackish legs and bill, a rounded tail and voluminous plumage, a broad elongated black eye-mask and a light grey nape. The body length averages 30cm and the tail 13–15cm (Wikipedia, general species account).
It is commonly found in foothill forests up to 1,600m, with shallow cup-shaped nests of bamboo leaves and grass in shrubs and trees 2–6m up. It is thought to remain in only small numbers in Malaysia because of trapping, but is well established in Singapore (Wikipedia, general species account).
