The white-throated fantail is a small passerine about 19cm long, with a dark fan-shaped tail edged in white and a white supercilium and throat, though plumage varies a lot between races. It is insectivorous and often fans its tail as it moves through the undergrowth. It is found in forest, scrub and cultivation across tropical southern Asia from the Himalayas, India and Bangladesh east to Indonesia (Wikipedia, general species account).
It lays three white eggs, with a band, in a small cup nest in a tree. Birds use the same song year after year with progressively small changes, so the song sounds very different after four or five years. The white-spotted fantail was until recently considered a subspecies (Wikipedia, general species account).
