Diet
Insects found on pine branches
Range
China, with the Hengduan Mountains as the main area; also Arunachal Pradesh, India
Size
About 12cm
The Yunnan nuthatch is a small nuthatch about 12cm long, with a wing chord of 69.5–74mm in males. The grey-blue upperparts contrast with light, smooth, buffy underparts, and there is a fine white eyebrow above a black eyestripe that is distinct when the plumage is fresh. A 2003 study identified the species as endemic to China, with the Hengduan Mountains as the main area of endemism, but it also occurs in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh in India (Wikipedia, general species account).
Its ecology is not well known, but it feeds on insects found on pine branches. The young are duller than the adult, with the eyebrow less marked (Wikipedia, general species account).
