Hodgson's or the whistling hawk-cuckoo (Hierococcyx nisicolor) is a cuckoo found in north-eastern India, Myanmar, southern China and South-east Asia. It is a brood parasite whose chick evicts the host's own young and becomes the sole occupant of the nest. To offset the lower provisioning rate that a single gape would bring, the chick displays gape-coloured patches of skin under its wings that simulate additional gapes, and host parents occasionally place food into them.
